The memorandum signed among TDIA, YRP and XGP Forum has significant meaning. We hope to realize the technical development in telecom field in both countries through the TDD technological cooperation.
Mr. Yuji Inoue, Chairperson of XGP Forum
XGP is advantageous than WiMAX in regard of technology. Despite of TDD’s minor market share, it will attract attention in future. XGP is a reliable telecom method generated from the over 10 years’ experience of PHS. By technological cooperation and joint usage of TDD technology, we hope to realize it as a highly-recognized international standard in future. XGP realized UL:DL=1:1, which attracted interest from the broadcasting industry.
Mr. Yang Hua, Secretary General of TDIA
TDD is an efficient method in regard of frequency usage. Its proportion between UL and DL is changeable during application. At the current stage, China is able to provide 179 models of TD terminals. Its test of TD-HSPA was completed too. We are considering the business version of HSPA terminal and its dual model with GSM in future. We are expecting over 100million TDD users in China in two years’ time. By joining the effort of China and Japan to promote TDD technology together, an even stronger platform for TDD future development will be built.
Mr. Masayoshi Wakao, Managing Director of ARIB
TD-SCDM, a telecom technology standardized by China is on its way of development to TD-LTE now. In the year of 2001, WCDMA and cdma2000 both started their 3G service in Japan. WiMAX and XGP service are starting this year in Japan too. Starting from China, we are positively promoting the cooperation of telecom technology to foreign countries. We hope to see the development of the cooperative relationship in regard of TDD project between Japan and China.

After courtesy addresses by the officials, delegates of some attending companies made 15 minutes’ presentation each. The following is a brief introduction of their presentations.

Ms. Liu Liping, Vice Manager of Terminal Administration Section, Data Service Department, China Mobile
TD-SCDMA is China’s self-developed technology, which was commercialized in 2008. China mobile has adopted over 90 models of TD terminals by mid-2009. We have made an R&D investment of CNY650million to improve the terminal quality. We hope Japanese terminal makers and testing device makers to join the industry in China.
Mr. Xu Zhaoji, Senior Technical Manager, Wireless Department, China Mobile Research Institute
The development of TD-LTE in China is directed by the operator from the very beginning. Besides the government support, the project has also attracted various companies on board. Joint lab was established with Integrator in May 2009. TD-LTE demonstration is schedule on Shanghai World Exposition in 2010.
Mr. Yoshioki Chika, Vice President of WILLCOM Inc.
XGP is a technology based on microcell system that has adopted OFDMA/TDMA-TDD method. XGP is designed to be the most suitable technology to drive TDD and AAS system. The result of field test in Japan showed that XGP’s DL throughput is 4 times quicker than WiMax. Its UL throughput almost doubled that of WiMax. Round trip time (RTT) is also quicker than WiMax and HSPA. We hope to make a true Wireless Broadband with the cooperation of Japan and China.
Mr. Setsuo Nakaya, Sharp Trading (China) Co. Ltd.
Sharp is interested in TD technology and it has plans to commercialize its TD terminals in near future. Sharp has kept its investment in GSM terminals last year with 10 models under production. The models are all the top 10 sellers in their own price category. Core technologies such as TFT LCD and camera lens are developed by Sharp itself.
Mr. Toshinori Iinuma, Kyocera Corp.
Kyocera is with XGP development at as early as the standardization stage. It also developed XGP base stations for WILLCOM Inc. XGP cells adopted autonomous decentralized control (ADC), which was based on dynamic channel allotment(DCA), and adaptive array antenna system(AAS) to avoid frequency interference between cells. Kyocera has by far produced and sold over half a million base stations that adopted AAS.
Mr. Li Changzu, Vice President, Huawei Technology
Huawei has 10,000 staffs at R&D department, working on the convergence of TDD and FDD. TD-SCDMA and LTE is also sharing one platform. Huawei believes that the advantages of TDD and FDD can be convergenced on the same platform. Huawei will collaborate with China Mobile to demonstrate TD-LTE on Shanghai World Exposition in 2010.
Mr. Eric Lou, Marketing Director, ZTE Corp.
With the convergence of FDD and TDD, the market scale is expanded. For example, the idea of using FDD method to cover outdoor area and TDD method to cover indoor area becomes practical. Due to the compatibility of the specifications of FDD and TDD, the foundation of convergence is prepared. ZTE is to release FDD/TDD compatible chipset in 2010. Interference between FDD and TDD can be resolved by dividing frequency and antenna.
