2010 China-Japan BWA Technology Forum Held in Beijing

2010 China-Japan Broadband Wireless Access Technology Forum was held on February 26th, 2010 in Beijing. ICT (Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences), XGP Forum, ARIB (Association of Radio Industries and Businesses) convened this Forum. Attendees were principle managers, CTOs, experts, engineers from Chinese Academy of Science, China Mobile Communication Association, Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, China Unicom, Datang Mobile, ZTE, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, XGP Forum, WILLCOM, Kyocera and other operators and suppliers.


Ninghui Sun, Vice chairperson of ICT (one of the hoster) announced the forum begins and addressed opening speech. He proclaimed that the significant characteristics like high throughput that XGP got make itself typically superior to other several technologies that had adopted ODFM. Thus CAS expects this forum will result in the better technology cooperation and application platform.
Mr. Yoichi Iida, Official at IT International Strategy Department of the MIC gave the welcome speech. He said since two countries had agreed to cooperate on telecommunications in May, 2009, the MIC also has been expecting that BWA cooperation based on TDD technology to be carried out progressively, and owing to short distance, it is very convenient for two nations to propel the cooperation more powerfully.
Thirdly, Mr. Peide Liu, execute secretary of CMCA, addressed a speech. He said that two nations should the develop the TDD technology to a worldwide acceptable technology together by collaborating each others` technology, knowhow and market advantages through this kind of deep cooperation.
Mr. Jinglin Shi, executive vice manager of Precedence Technology Wireless Center of ICT, one of joint XGP experiment partners, address the next speech. He introduced an application by integrating the effect of broadband technology and IP technology with mobile communication net. Then he reviewed the proposal of phasing in XGP to China.
Mr. Xiangning Wang, a staff of National Broadband Project Lab of China Unicom (another partner in Beijing), proclaimed that Unicom has been in an intimate relationship with WILLCOM for a long period from PHS period. He also explained XGP assessment result. By his account, Unicom aims at W-CDMA and FDD-LTE, yet the function of XGP is superior to W-CDMA, that technology fusion and application to the Internet of Things which is being pushed ahead is highly expected.
Mr. Yoshioki Chika, vice president & CTO of WILLCOM followed next. He said that WILLCOM has been offering package service to the world for quite a long time as a telecommunication pioneer, and have found that efficient capacity for overwhelming frequency effects is needed to provide real broadband service. Besides, smart phone antenna and AAS(Adaptive Array Antenna System) are essential elements for wireless broadband technology, WiMAX and W-CDMA are not ripe, yet WILLCOM has realized the adoption successfully by developing XGP and testified excellent function.
After coffee break, Mr. Yoshida, manager of communication infra business department, introduced how Kyocera make efforts to adapt to XGP. He demonstrated the experiment result of adaptive array technology which is a key point by showing field test data.
Mr. Xin Lou, TD market manager of ZTE introduced ZTE`s efficient experience in TDD technology. He also proposed TD-LTE technology adopt microcell system. He showed deep interest in the effect of microcell technology and successive communication as well.
Mr. Pun Lam, CEO of MicroXel Networks, followed next. The company used to be the wireless department of UTStarcom and struck out on its own in 2009. Mr.Pun Lam introduced XGP system which is being developed by the company.
WILLCOM and ICT introduced China-Japan Joint Program of XGP Application Development experiment. Mr. Shuda Cai at WILLCOM I Technology Department Mr. Cai introduced the purpose of the program backed up by MIC, the cooperation system, investigation summary. In fact, facilities reached in Beijing last December, system integration began sequentially. On January 15th, three parties held kick-off meeting and concurred in opinion how to conduct investigation and research. They spent about one and a half month on evaluation management. Remote education system of Chinese Academy of Science found that the function of XGP was better than expected and assumed that XGP will be play a wonderful roll if is adopted by HD vision.
Mr. Yin Huang at ICT Advanced technology wireless center of ICT is the top level research institution in China, not only carries on wireless R&D, but also various projects of CMCA by consignment contract. In the joint program of XGP application development, it is responsible for application evaluation, but mainly evaluates remote education system. He reached a magnificent result that XGP did so well in remote education system so that it has a great potential to be applied in a mount of fields. High throughput, multiple subscriber accessibility, efficient frequency help XGP realize coexistence. Meanwhile, he added that XGP has other excellent functions like compatible upload and download, high mobility, and these are not equipped by former wireless technologies.
