TD-LTE scheme innovates on 1.9GHz Digital Cordless system

Information and Communication Technology Subcommittee, which is set up by Information and Communications Council under MIC (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications), has decided that Land Wireless Communication Committee starts the examinations to introduce TD-LTE scheme to 1.9GHz Digital Cordless system (June 30, 2016). This committee has set up Digital Cordless Work Team (July 7), which has started the discussions since July 22 to find out technical conditions of the new radio system sharing the frequency band with existing systems.

Note that Digital Cordless system uses 1.9GHz unlicensed band. PHS including private use has been introduced in 1993. After that, DECT and sPHS have been introduced in 2010. These new wideband systems can achieve high functionalities such as high quality voice and high speed data communications.

Now, in order to support various kinds of needs for IoT, the enhanced system with focus on data communications is demanded. Toward introducing LTE scheme to 1.9GHz Digital Cordless system, technical conditions of the new radio system sharing the frequency band with existing systems are discussed.

XGP Forum has set up Ad Hoc 22 SWG under TWG, and has promoted the activities which introduce TD-LTE scheme to 1.9GHz Digital Cordless system.
